Cupping is a traditional drainage method within Chinese medicine that specifically stimulates the flow of Qi and blood. Cupping glasses are placed on certain areas of the body in order to release stagnant energy, blood or toxic heat from the tissue through negative pressure. This method has a regulating, circulation-promoting and relieving effect – both physically and energetically.
In our practice in Berlin-Friedenau, we use two methods: classic dry cupping and cupping with blood. Both methods have been part of TCM for centuries – and have proven effective for a variety of complaints.
Cupping stimulates the tissue, activates the metabolism and gets congested processes moving again. The negative pressure in the jars ensures that the skin is slightly raised, which improves blood circulation and stimulates lymph flow. At the same time, pathogenic factors such as wind, cold or heat are specifically removed.
The effects of cupping range from relieving muscular tension to strengthening the immune system. Cupping can be a particularly effective stimulus for regeneration in cases of chronic pain, susceptibility to infection, digestive problems or exhaustion.
In dry cupping, a vacuum is created in the glass, which is placed on the oiled skin. This form is mainly used for muscle tension and general vitalization.
In bloody cupping, the skin is scratched superficially before application. The resulting negative pressure causes congested, dark blood or tissue fluid to escape. This form of treatment is particularly suitable for chronic congestion or for the targeted removal of internal heat.
Cupping massage is a therapeutic method within traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) that combines elements of classic cupping with manual massage techniques. The aim is to regulate the flow of Qi (vital energy) and blood in the meridians, to eliminate pathogenic factors and to harmonize functional disorders in the body.
In contrast to static cupping, where the cupping glasses remain fixed at defined points, cupping massage is dynamic: an oiled area of skin – often along the bladder meridian on the back – is worked along specific meridians or muscle pathways using a cupping glass that is placed under negative pressure. The negative pressure generated slightly lifts the skin and underlying tissue, stimulating local blood circulation, lymph flow and metabolism. At the same time, the muscles are loosened and stagnation is released.
Contraindications include acute inflammation, skin injuries, severe cardiovascular disease and pregnancy in the lumbar spine and abdomen.
Cupping massage is an effective addition to TCM therapy. Its effects are based on both physical stimuli and energetic regulation – always in the context of individual TCM diagnostics and taking into account the energetic state of the patient.
The procedures vary in price and duration of treatment. See also our price list.

Practical experience
Ms. Zhang-Sievers examined my health problem very thoroughly. She is committed and took a lot of time, explaining all my questions competently and clearly. The treatment itself was pleasant, and the practice premises are bright and modern.
I feel that I am in good hands there.
I received an acupuncture treatment - she asked me to relax and checked that everything was OK each time before she inserted a needle. Everything was done efficiently but at the same time with great care. Her empathy, kindness and open nature made it easy to trust her recommendations.
The receptionist was also very friendly and patient. She explained to me exactly how to prepare the herbs correctly and answered all my questions.
All in all, a very professional and cordial team.
As always, I felt great after the treatment. To ensure that the success remains long-term, Ms. Zhang immediately made another appointment with me. The facility is very relaxed and all the staff are professionals in their field.
I have been coming to Ms. Zhang-Sievers' practice for over 3 years now. I have always been helped successfully and quickly with various complaints (allergies, blockages, concentration difficulties).
