Atlas correction in Berlin-Friedenau

Gentle adjustment of the first cervical vertebra - for more stability, relaxation and inner balance

What is an atlas correction?

The atlas is the uppermost cervical vertebra – named after the titan of Greek mythology who carried the celestial vault. In humans too, this small but central vertebra literally carries our head – and influences far more than just our posture. The region between the first and second cervical vertebrae is densely packed with nerves, sensors and receptors. This is where a lot of information comes together that helps to control our posture, muscle tension and balance.

During an atlas correction, it is checked whether the atlas vertebra is displaced from its natural position – which often goes unnoticed. Targeted manual impulses are used to bring it back into a centered position in order to relieve the nervous system and allow the body to return to its balance.

How does an atlas correction work?

A misalignment of the atlas vertebra does not usually cause any direct pain. However, it can lead to symptoms in completely different parts of the body: due to muscular imbalances, altered statics, irritated nerves or disturbed signal processing.

Atlas correction aims to release blockages in the upper cervical spine, improve mobility and promote the body’s self-regulation. Many patients report more lightness in the neck, better sleep or a feeling of inner alignment after the first treatment. Vegetative complaints such as dizziness, tinnitus or exhaustion can also change for the better.

Who is an atlas correction suitable for?

Atlas correction is particularly suitable for people with unspecific or therapy-resistant complaints that are associated with muscle tension, dizziness or postural problems.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions about acupuncture

Many patients come to our practice with specific questions. Here we answer the most common ones – honestly, comprehensibly and to the point:

Is the atlas correction painful?

No – it is usually very gentle. Some people feel a slight pull or a brief tension in the neck area.

One session is often enough to notice initial changes. In the case of chronic complaints or stable poor posture, further sessions may be useful.

Some experience fatigue, emotional reactions or muscular changes – usually signs of an active reorganization. We recommend rest and plenty of water afterwards.

Atlas correction is very gentle. As with all manual techniques, muscle soreness or short-term irritation can rarely occur.

Targeted movement exercises, stretching, warmth and mindful body awareness help to stabilize the treatment result.

The method is part of complementary medicine. Its effect has not yet been proven by large studies, but many patients find it noticeably helpful.

Practical experience

Why we work with atlas correction

For us, health begins where body awareness, freedom of movement and inner stability come together – not just where discomfort ends. In our practice in Berlin-Friedenau, we treat the people who come to us with respect, attention and a deep understanding of the interactions between posture, nervous system and emotional experience.

We see atlas correction as a gentle stimulus: it brings structures into balance, creates new spaces for self-regulation and supports the body in rediscovering its original order. Our work is mindful, individual and solution-oriented – based on our many years of experience and the findings of modern manual therapies.

Our treatments do not follow a rigid procedure. We see atlas correction as an invitation to a dialog with the body – through touch, perception and targeted impulses that achieve more than pure technique. The focus is always on you as a person with your history, your feelings and your desire for lasting change.
